New Game Plus is Xenoblade Chronicles 2’s built-in answer to “I finished the story but I am not done with Blades.” It lets you restart the campaign with substantial carry-over so collection, affinity, and build experiments continue instead of resetting to zero.

Use NG+ when you want a cleaner second playthrough, missable cleanup, or a more comfortable rare Blade hunting environment—not as an emergency fix mid-first-playthrough.

This page stays focused on new game plus with concrete menu and combat vocabulary so you can apply it on your next session without reopening a general overview.

01

What generally carries over

Expect to keep the bulk of your Blade collection, much of your itemization, money-related progress, and long-term unlock investment, while story flags and certain one-time sequences reset so the narrative can replay. Exact lists can feel long in-game; treat the NG+ confirmation screens as authoritative for your version.

Because Blades and resources largely persist, NG+ is the ideal time to reassign loadouts with Overdrive Protocols, finish affinity charts, and hunt ultra-rares without worrying that story power is insufficient.

Screenshot or note the NG+ carry-over confirmation list for your version before accepting. Players sometimes assume accessories or shop progress behave differently than they do on a particular patch.

02

Planning a NG+ run

Before starting NG+, finish quests you care about, stock pouch ingredients, and note any missables you still need. If you plan a low-level or challenge-flavored run, dump unnecessary XP strategies and prepare specific Blade sets first.

If your goal is completion, NG+ plus late-game crystal access is the humane way to chase KOS-MOS and other ultra-rares. Trying to force that chase at chapter 3 of a first save is how people burn out.

If your NG+ goal is completion, park unfinished side quests and crystal hunts on a written list before credits nostalgia fades. Second runs go faster when you know which Titans still hide unfinished boards.

FAQ

Questions players ask first

When should I start New Game Plus?+

Start NG+ after the ending and any endgame errands you care about on that save. Launching it early throws away a coherent first-playthrough arc without much mechanical benefit.

Does NG+ include Torna progress?+

Torna is a separate campaign structure. Keep base-game NG+ planning and Torna completion tracking distinct unless your edition’s menus explicitly show shared rewards you care about.
